High-Quality Sanitation for Everyone, Everywhere

Sanitation Where It’s Needed Most
Everyone has the right to high-quality sanitation services everywhere they live, work, and go to school. Yet nearly 100 million people in India lack access to a toilet and have no other option but to defecate in the open.
SHRI works alongside underserved communities and local governments to expand access to safe sanitation by renovating and managing shared facilities in neighborhoods, markets, schools, health centers, and other public spaces. Ensuring these facilities remain clean, safe, and functional over time, SHRI provides reliable sanitation where it’s needed most.
Grounded in a rights-based approach, SHRI focuses on reaching last-mile service users while generating practical evidence that shared sanitation can be a high-quality option, preferred by users and essential to achieving universal access.
